Patriarch 2014 of Soloperto winery, the Salentina wine history in the bottle.

In the early decades of the 1900 the company of the first generation Soloperto was among the first in Italy for the bulk wine trade. In 1967, the second generation Soloperto represented by his son Giovanni, a skilled, enterprising and forward-looking winemaker decided to want to give greater value to his land and its grapes. Thus was the first winery to bottle the Primitivo in purity by writing on the label "fine wine for the whole meal". Furthermore, he was the first producer to register when the law on Denominations of Controlled Origin was passed, and then he obtained and recognized the Denomination of Origin for Primitivo di Manduria in 1974, contributing to the drafting of the same Disciplinary. Currently the company is led and represented by Giovanni's sons who represent the third generation Soloperto, Ernesto and Sabrina who expertly manage it keeping intact the lines of the company's production philosophy and produce about 2 million bottles a year, growing grapes: Primitivo , Negroamaro, Verdeca, Bianco di Alessano, Bombino Bianco and Chardonnay from which 32 labels are obtained, including rosé, still reds, still whites and a white sparkling wine obtained with the Charmat method, both ready to drink and more structured and also suitable for aging. Patriarch 2014, Primitivo di Manduria DOP is the label that I have had the opportunity to taste and represents the tip of the company's Diamond. It is composed of 100% pure Primitivo grapes that are harvested from vines about 50 years old, between the last week of August and the first of September, to then be vinified in stainless steel and finally refine for nine months in oak barriques French. At sight it has a beautiful garnet red color while On the nose we can feel small ripe red fruits such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, fig jam, raisins, spicy notes such as chocolate, tobacco and coffee and finally withered flowers such as violet. As for taste, it is velvety, warm, soft, round, enveloping, well-structured and with a slight flavor given by its proximity to the Ionian Sea. Tannin present but pleasant. Long gustatory persistence, ideal to drink now. This wine can be combined not only widely with dishes and flavors of the Apulian tradition but also with dishes such as grilled meats or dishes with long preparations and decisive, rich and defined flavors. N.B The 2014 vintage was for the Apulian wines declining in quantity due to the yields halved by the various climatic trends, a bit like all over Italy.
